Council’s blueprint for the future has hit the floor of council. Despite the best advice of the consultants employed to draft a town planning strategy for Margaret River, the planning department is intent on pushing forward with its eastern bypass along the perimeter of state forest to the east of Margaret River.

The sacred cow of the Primary School is safe, for now. Give the Council another ten years of its merry way and kiss the Primary School goodbye.

And embrace a future of 4.7% growth, and plans for such, despite the best advice that growth has already slowed and is slowing, and will bottom out to around 2% long before 2020.

Council is blinded by its grand plans. It is an albatross. It seeks its vision for today with promises it can’t keep in order to satisfy its landholder friends.

Don’t forsake our future. Don’t let this happen. 4.7% growth when 2% is the reality? This is ridiculous. The eastern perimeter road is ridiculous.

There are some good points which if realised would offer substantial protection to remnant vegetation and increased public open space. Aside from those environmental imperatives the concept plan is a disaster for Margaret River. Remember you heard it here first at MargaretRiverNews.
